Challenging False Accusations: Legal Strategies in Minnesota

Even without physical evidence, Minnesota law allows a crime to be proven based on one person’s word. A strong defense challenges credibility to fight false accusations. #LegalDefense #FalseAccusations

There Is No Video, DNA, Or Physical Evidence. It’s Just One Person Saying
Something. Why Isn’t My Case Dismissed?

One person saying something happened is enough evidence to prove a crime occurred in Minnesota. While technology and forensics often provide other evidence, it is not necessary. The system recognizes that many crimes are, by their nature, often committed in secrecy or behind closed doors. Minnesota law allows people to say this crime happened to me and gives them the chance to be believed.

But that is the key. It all comes down to believability and credibility. A skilled defense attorney will highlight why someone is not believable and help you maximize your chances of escaping unfounded allegations.

People may lie or exaggerate about crime for many reasons. Sometimes a criminal conviction would give someone an upper hand in a separate court case, such as a custody case. Sometimes people lie to retaliate for perceived unfaithfulness in a relationship or simply as a power move to try to maintain control over your life.

Other times the issue is less nefarious. People can be confused due to being drunk, high, not wearing their glasses, or otherwise physically unable to see what they say they saw. Eyewitnesses, and memory in general, can be affected by many different variables. The latest science shows that memory is far from the infallible, video-style recording that people often think it is.

If there are accusations against you based solely on a single witness, it is critical that you get a plan together early, gather any corroborating evidence or witnesses that you can, and persuasively present all the reasons why your accuser should not be believed. Hiring a skilled defense attorney will help you determine the best way to present your case and defeat false accusations.
